Anyway, my point...I have to constantly bribe myself with rewards, motivational strategies, etc. in order to get out of these ruts. For example, today I wanted to check out the new arrivals that LOFT so lovingly reminded me about via email this morning. So, after work, I went. I tried on a medium in a top that I loved and a pair of pants. The top showed my back fat from my bra and the pants, well, I don't want to talk about them. That slapped me in the face so hard. So, that made me snap out of my little "wah wah (those are crying sounds, FYI) I don't wanna..." attitude. I will get those pants. Dammit.
Another strategy that is a personal favorite of mine is taking a stroll down memory lane with my comparison pictures. Looking at those pictures when I was large (and not at all in charge) flood back the feelings of inadequacy and misery and make me want to run until there is no more jiggle...anywhere. Everybody say it with me..."day-ummm". Being the fat friend in the middle is NOT cool. EVER.
And finally, one of my favorite things to do that actually makes me look forward to going on a run...NEW MUSIC!!! I absolutely love getting on iTunes and seeing what I can find to put me in the fitness mood. I'll Google "best songs of the 80's, 90's, etc." and find so many jewels that I had completely forgotten about. Yes, I know it adds up and that can be obnoxious, but it's cheaper than those new clothes I'll soon have to buy if I keep sitting on my tail feathers. I download my new songs, make a bad ass playlist, and start moving. So, here is my most recent playlist and reasons why each songs keeps me moving and smiling!
- Feel Again- OneRepublic (The chorus really makes my feet move faster with the "oohh ohhh ohhh" part and the lyrics are motivating-"I was a lonely soul, but that's the old me..."
- Cruise- Florida Georgia Line (I just picture myself dancing a really cool country dance to this song...it's so fast and fun)
- Promiscuous- Nelly Furtado and Timbaland (I love this duet. I want to feel like a promiscuous girl.)
- We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together- T. Swift (It's Taylor Swift and she's perfect.)
- All These Things That I've Done- The Killers (LOVE how this song is nice and slow then BAM "I got soul but I'm not a soldier" gets me all pumped)
- Cyclone- Baby Bash featuring T-Pain (simple, I want to move my body like a cyclone, not a tsunami)
- Shot in the Dark- Augustana (One of my favorites. "I know I've still got a shot in the dark" says it all and I really start to believe it.
- Whistle- Flo Rida (It's fun. That's all.)
- Begin Again- T. Swift (I need good, slow songs so I can walk and reflect and this is a great one for just that)
- Some Nights- Fun. (Ohhh this song makes me want to do like crazy kung-fu workout moves)
- Bring On The Rain- Jo Dee Messina and Tim McGraw ("Tomorrow's another day, and I'm thirsty anyway, so bring on the brain"...who wouldn't be motivated by that?)
- If I Needed You- Lyle Lovett (I danced with my dad to this song at my wedding and it makes me think of that and I smile)
- Seasons of Love- Rent Soundtrack (I think this song should be played on the intercom over the world. Maybe people would calm the hell down and just love each other.)
Well, there you have it. My current playlist. I can't wait to download more songs over the next couple of days so I can get my ass back in gear. I hadn't really cared about writing another post this week to be quite honest with you. But, 3-4 people said something about liking my blog and I got excited to do another post. See? We all motivate each other in so many different ways. Keep on keeping on, everyone. You can do it. And so can I. I believe in all of you to accomplish your goals! Here are some laughs...enjoy!

I do the same thing when I need to get motivated again, looking at my before photos. It really helps! And you look great!!!

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your kind words! It means so much to me that I'm not doing this for nothing! 19 lbs. down is awesome, but I think it's even more amazing to be 29 days smoke free! I bet you will be able to accomplish so much more without it. Congratuations and keep it up!
DeleteYou make me giggle and then bring me back to reality. Time to change things up for me to get me moving more too. Things are starting to get old. As always loved your blog. Thanks Sarah. We can do this!!!!
ReplyDeleteYes we can! Thank you so much for reading. It is such a struggle but I know we will get there!
DeleteGreat post!! I needed to read this today, thank you! I just downloaded everything on your playlist - I love new playlists. You are right, it is motivating. Cheers to getting out of the rut!!!
ReplyDeleteToo funny, Beth! I'm sure iTunes appreciates it lol. Thank you so much for reading. I will definitely practice what I preach and get out of this rut!
Deletejust got out of my rut today Sarah! JM was awesome. thanks for the little boost too! I've never had quinoa either, but I just decided that (from that picture anyway) it kinda looks like herpes. (I just got over a bad cluster of cold sores - GROSS. I know. so I can say that). Now I am never eating quinoa. EVAR.
ReplyDeletehahaha that made me crack up! Thanks so much for reading!
DeleteI had another thought about this post. I do most of my running and elliptical work inside at the gym. I'm a baby...I don't like the outdoors...what can I say :-) Anyway, I use Netflix on my iPhone and iPad to motivate me to move. I like to find something new to watch and I only allow myself to watch it at the gym. I've getten hooked on quite a few shows this way. And like you said Sarah it's cheap! $7.99/mo.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea!! If/when it's too cold in the evenings, I'll probably start on the treadmill also and that would def. help motivate me! Possibly even use Hulu to catch up on my "shows" from the week before! Thanks!
DeleteSo I just read your whole blog and decided we are the same person. I, too, am losing weight to get pregnant (someday), I am a teacher, and I LOVE Taylor Swift. Okay, yes, that is only three things, but seriously... I love your writing and it is so nice to see someone at the end of their journey! I am 25 pounds into mine (www.wannabe-mama.blogspot.com). Thanks for sharing and keep writing!
ReplyDeleteWell 3 things in common pretty much means the same person to me! Thank you so much for your kind words of encouragement and congrats on a 25 lb. loss!!! That is so great!!
ReplyDeleteLove your playlist! Gonna have to download a couple of then for my runs! You look amazing by the way!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! That is very nice of you to say! Thanks for reading!
